Book Review #1 : Hilarious take on Corporate dynamics...
Get Corporated Before You Get Fired by the first-time author - Rajeev Tamhankar, is a simple, short, slightly exaggerated, funny and sarcastic take on the usual "corporate dynamics" that all of us who have ever worked in the corporate sector will be well aware of. Rajeev is a silver medalist from IIT Roorkee and holds a Limca World Record for hand-drawing, with over 140 students and faculties, the world’s largest political map.
Despite the best preventive HR policies of randomly reorganizing the department and designing incomprehensible appraisal processes, Sid, an employee has got promoted within a short span of five years (very short span indeed) (pun intended). The HR vice president is absolutely not happy about this and he needs an RCA (Root Cause Analysis) done and he needs it done fast !!!

Meet Sid ---- Sid is a classic "over-achiever" employee of an Indian online retail giant, who always comes on time, works hard, does overtime that too at no extra pay, and never gets promoted ? Discover the corporate work culture as he makes his way through various graphs, pie-charts, bell-curves and what not-all to save his job!
The story is about how he launches a new smartphone, and, more importantly, WHY he launches that new smartphone! Oh…. How he gets promoted is really the best part of the story.
Rajeev Tamhankar takes you through all the typical (and somewhat cunning according to the author, if I may add) practices of corporate heads, HR executives, and Marketing teams, in a humorously entertaining fashion, without ever becoming predictable. Written in a contemporary style, with a simple story line (no complicated plots or characters), Get Corporated Before You Get Fired makes for a light, breezy read. (It was less than 125 pages long.)
This is my first book review and thought of picking up a hilarious, light book and indeed this is truly hilarious. Silly but really funny. Won’t deny that I didn’t get bored in between.
What I liked :
- The story is like a compilation of many jokes you make about work and colleagues just to get your point across but at the same time not to sound too serious.
- Exaggerations are super funny.
What I didn’t liked :
- The sarcasm is at extreme and you may feel pity for the characters too.
- Some may not like the way how author depicts the corporate life and at few places i found it not relatable.
- For some working in corporate world may not like the story and those who aspire to work in corporate world will get a negative impression of the culture.
- Addition of fighting spirit/story of lead character rather than depicting depressed characters in the book would have been more relatable and a much interesting read.
"There are always two ways to make a point, the serious way and a funny way. Trust me, people actually listen when you make a joke and drive a point." (Thank me later)
