Escape the Race and Enjoy the Journey
A
majority of the world including the corporate world is, knowingly or
unknowingly, a part of the race including you!
If someone tries to stand out from the crowd we all had witnessed or undergone
the ugly side of it and burnt our hands in the pursuit even if he or she has
tried harder. Yes I am referring to the Rat Race.
As per the Wikipedia, A rat race is an endless, self-defeating, or pointless
pursuit. It conjures up the image of lab rats racing through a maze to get the
"cheese" much like society racing to get ahead financially.
This race seems like humans are competing with another or others to see who is
fastest at covering a set course or achieving a set objective. It is a
competition in which the point is to win.
You’re not supposed to enjoy the ride, learn anything or make community better.
You’re supposed to win. At the end of a race, people congratulate the winner
and point out how well he or she did by winning. The rest of the field runner
ups, well you tried.
We sometimes say “He/She won a particular Race,” to “He/She is a winner.” It's
time that we realize they are not the same thing and has a different meaning
altogether. You may win the rat race, but you won’t win the human race.
Some things are races, but not many. Life is not a race and we are not going to
be judged by how fast we completed it and it better not be.
"Life is a journey with unique set of challenges exclusive to an individual, lessons to be learned from, but most of all the experiences to enjoy the path and not just reaching the finish line fast."
The next question is how to escape this race and start this journey.
Most of what we're chasing is that which we've had all along. In our society,
the getting is ever more important than the having.
Life is Race between cat and rat, rat mostly win, because cat runs for food and
rat runs for life. Remember, Purpose is more important than getting or rather
fulfilling the need.
'Try harder' is
something we hear a lot. After a while, though, we run out of energy for
'harder.' You can harangue people about trying harder all you like, but sooner
or later, they come up empty.
Perhaps it's worth trying better instead.
Try the path you've been afraid of and spend the time to learn a whole new
approach by trying better, not harder.
There's nothing wrong with getting, of course, as long as the purpose and
process is in sync with the life you want to lead.
“Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” - Steve Jobs.
